Self employed courier? Drive a van? Then you know how important it is to keep overheads down and your courier insurance is a big one. So, instead of getting a quote, why not invite a whole panel of specialist insurers to get quotes for you, via single simple form that should take no more than a minute or two to complete??

Stop Press!

A number of van insurers are now offering Instant Online Quotes for van insurance (sorry, not car or two wheeler) with Hire and Reward (Courier) Insurance!

Up to 60 insurers can be invited to quote; how many will provide them depends on many factors but why not see what they can offer on our car insurance page?

Can I buy very cheap courier insurance?

We must be realistic. Insurance premiums are based on risks, and delivery drivers are seen as being riskier than most drivers since they are often under pressure to complete an insane number of deliveries every day. However there are lots of insurers out there and they all have different ideas on just how much a reasonable premium should be so the more quotes you get the better chance of saving a lot of money!

What kind of insurance do I need?

As an absolute minimum you'll have to have a form of Hire and Reward insurance (sometimes called delivery driver, or courier, insurance) for your van - it's a legal necessity. If employ anyone you'll probably need Emploers Liability Cover too. You might also want to have public liability insurance and goods in transit cover - in fact some of the firms you deliver for may insist on these. No problem, a policy can be tailor-made to your own specification - it can often be a lot cheaper to buy an insurance package like this, rather than buy all the covers separately.

Also, you might well get more, or better, jobs if you are fully insured - it gives potential customers more confidence in you. No-one would be happy about risking their expensive parcels being stolen or lost before it reaches the customer and you could well be held personally liable for their loss if you didn't have insurance.

Can I pay for my insurance monthly?

Probably. Do bear in mind though that the cheapest way of buying just about any policy is to pay for year's cover at the outset - some insurers don't accept monthly payments so you may be reducing your chances of getting a better deal.

Can I get third party only cover?

Again you probably can but it won't necessarily be cheaper - in fact it may actually cost more, despite offering fewer benefits! This is because in the past there was a higher level of claims from drivers who picked this type of cover, so insurers tend to fight shy of it. You should always get quotes for comprehensive cover too, it may cost less than you expect.

Can I get pay-as-you-drive top-up cover?

If you must. There are very few insurers that offer this, it can be very expensive, and it can get complicated, particularly if you need to make a claim and there is a dispute over just which insurer is responsible for paying for it.

So how do I compare quotes?

Just fill in the form - it takes hardly any time. Selected brokers from the panel will send you quotes to compare. So why not do it now 😀 !

There are a lot of different insurance companies out there, but it's important to make sure you're getting the right cover from a trusted provider. This is why you will only get quotes from top-tier insurers to give you the best possible protection.
